Avon’s 78-acre Miller Nature Preserve offers a variety of opportunities for recreation, education and the enjoyment of nature. It includes a visitor center with a café, gift shop, a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes and an outdoor patio with musicians playing in the summer, and a 5,000-square-foot conservatory, open every day from 10am-6pm except Christmas and New Year’s Day. The conservatory features exotic plants from around the world, including a spectacular orchid collection; a bonsai collection; collections of desert plants and carnivorous plants; palms; ferns; and bromeliads as well as seasonal displays; admission is only $2. And of course it’s always free to hike the grounds and enjoy the beauty of the woods.
