Thanks to a bizarre article in a local paper a decade ago, some people got the erroneous impression that the Velvet Tango Room was a snobbish, exclusive cocktail lounge where the average joe would get the cold shoulder. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, the aura is elegant, and the cocktails, perfectly made from scratch and many exclusive to VTR, are pricy. But anyone celebrating a special occasion here will feel welcomed. A limited menu of sweets and tasting platters is intended primarily to enhance the drinks. Piano jazz every evening enhances the rarified — but open at all — atmosphere.
