FRONT Triennial Is No More, but 2022 FRONT Fellows Get Their Capstone Show

Thu 10/2 @ 5-8PM

The FRONT Art Future Fellowship was established in conjunction with the FRONT 2022 International Triennial, the second and what turned out to be the last of these triennials. It was established to showcase the work of promising (emerging and mid-career) artists of color and, although it initially said it would award three fellowships, it chose four artists, revealing the depth of talent among Black artists in northeast Ohio.

The four artists were promised a stipend although with a host of opportunities to enhance their careers, including mentorship, travel, professional development opportunities and a capstone exhibition at FRONT 2025 which, as we indicated, never happened. But the promises were delivered, and the capstone show will take place, opening this week at the Transformer Station. All the artists in the show, titled New Work: Amanda D. King, Charmaine Spencer, Erykah Townsend, Antwoine Washington, are pretty familiar to art lovers in the community, who will be eager to see the new work created by this quartet.

It will open with a free public reception on Thursday October 2 from 5-8pm and remain on view through December 27. Go here for more information about the artists.
