Canadian musician Ray Bonneville, now 69, was kicking around for a long time before he wrote his first song in his early 40s. Born to a French-Canadian family, who moved to Boston, he served in Vietnam, drove a cab and piloted planes, and started to play in blues bands, first around New England and later across the country, as he moved around from Colorado to Alaska to New Orleans, which had a strong influence on his music. Eventually — in the early 90s, he began to release albums, which made his music more accessible to a wider audience.
Bonneville will be back at Oberlin’s Riverdog Retreat to perform in the intimate gallery space. It’s a $15 donation at the door; reservations are advised (Call 440-965-8309). There will be snacks and hot tea available; as usual, you are welcome to bring your own food and drink.
