Tremont Greek Festival Helps Launch Summer

Fri 5/23-Sun 5/25@ noon-midnight

Mon 5/26 @ noon-8PM

For many decades, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Tremont has helped kick off the summer with its four-day Memorial weekend Greek Fest.

The main attraction at every church festival the food celebrating its ethnic background, almost always homemade (or made in the church kitchen) by parishioners: a seemingly bottomless array of national specialties who are experts in turning out mousaka, avgolemono (egg lemon soup, my father’s specialty) and spanikopita as good as my Aunt Katherine’s.

While food is the #1 draw, there’s a lot of other things, including multiple church tours daily to see a spectacular interior that matches the promise of its domes, a landmark visible from the freeway, and to learn more about the Greek Orthodox religion. There’s also a full schedule of Greek music and dance performances, both inside in its spacious church hall and outside in its parking lot.

Admission is free so you can keep going back for more food…and more…and more…that baklava is beckoning…
