Radio on the Lake Theatre’s specialty is radio plays: those dramas that used to have families gathered around the radio using their imaginations to picture scenes they could hear but couldn’t see. At RotL’s performances, you can SEE the performers, but they don’t act out the shows; they perform them as the radio actors did, standing at mics and using their voices to create the imaginary action.

For the next of their series of readings at Dunham Tavern Museum on midtown, they’ll be taking on two radio dramas based on films by Alfred Hitchock. One is Lux Radio Theatre’s version of his 1940 film version of the novel Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, in which a young bride is haunted by the specter of her new husband’s deceased wife. The other is RotL’s own adaptation of Hitchcock’s 1963 film, The Birds, also based on a story by Du Maurier, which they’re stripped down to actors, sound effects and audio.
