New Concert Club Globe Iron Opens in the Flats; Cleveland's Mushroomhead Is One of the First Shows

Sat 5/3 @ 8PM

Plan on more traffic in the Flats this summer. AEG, the promoters who run the Agora and Jacobs Pavilion, have just opened a new 1,200 seat venue there on the West Bank at 2320 Center Street called Globe Iron. Its first official concerts take place this week, and one of those is a show by Cleveland’s own Mushroomhead.

Formed in 1993 by members of local metal bands as a side project, the musicians donned masks so they couldn’t be recognized as members of their “main” bands. No one seriously expected the band would still be playing more than 30 years later, but there you go. They’ve become known for their creative masks, costuming and stage performances, as well as for music that’s alternative thunderous and moody, drawing in influences from metal, punk, ambient and industrial music. Band founder, drummer Steve Felton (aka “Skinny” — they also adopted pseudonyms), is the only remaing original member, but they soldier on.
