When Trump was elected again in November 2020, bringing along Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his vice-president, Governor Mike DeWine was tasked with appointing a replacement until the next Senate election in 2026. He chose his own lieutenant governor (and former secretary of state) Jon Husted, known for being enmeshed in the $61 million First Energy scandal, among other things as a conduit for appointment First Energy’s man Sam Randazzo to head the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, which oversees businesses like First Energy. (Neat, huh?) Husted recently testified in the trial of a couple of First Energy executives and said he doesn’t remember nuttin’.
In addition, Husted recently said the only reason low-income people are struggling is, well, to quote him, “People living in poverty are just not very, they’re not very experienced at navigating the real world.” Wouldn’t you like to see him attempt to “navigate” on an income of, say, $25,000 a year? I would!
Luckily, that Senate election is coming up in November, and we have the opportunity to replace Husted with former Senator Sherrod Brown, who has always worked hard on behalf of those who have less rather than First Energy executives.
Mobilize the Vote NEO and their allies have been dogged in calling out Senator Husted, gathering every Wednesday outside his office. They say, “During these (very) trying times humor and fun are necessary. On April Fools’ Day, activists around Ohio are organizing special protests at each of Husted’s Ohio offices to let him know what a terrible job he is doing ‘representing’ Ohioans. We will also use this time to let everyone in Ohio know that we won’t be fooled into voting for him in November. Come to one of Husted’s offices on April 1 with a performance review, a letter, a sign or just bring your voice. Rain or shine, so dress for the weather!”
Husted’s office is in the Celebrezze Federal Building at East 9th and Lakeside. Activists will be gathering outside from 11am-12:30pm; bring a sign telling Husted what his REAL priorities should be and help send him back to “the real world” in November. Learn more here.
