Sun 2/8 @ 2PM
The Cleveland Cello Society’s mission is to promote both those who make cello music and an audience for the music they make, via concerts, scholarships and educational programs. This week it offers one of the latter when it hosts a lecture/recital by The Cleveland Orchestra’s Principal Cellist Mark Kosower.
His topic is “Music and Memories of Janos Starker.” Kosower will tell his own story accompanied by photos and videos, sharing his journey from his earliest encounters with cello to his stellar career of today, focusing on the mentorship of Hungarian-American cellist Janos Starker (1924-2013). He’ll open his presentation with a performance of Zoltan Kodaly’s 1915 Sonata for Solo Cello, Op. 8, which he learned under the guidance of Janos who studied the piece with Kodaly. That will be followed by his 40-minute audio/visual program.
The program takes place at The Music Settlement’s Glick Recital Hall. Go here for tickets or call 216-921-3480.
