Bill “The Sauce Boss” Wharton has been visiting Wilbert’s for years, since back when it was on St. Clair and West 9th at the top of the Flats. And he still does what he did then: play solid heartfelt blues music buoyed by his dazzling slide guitar and the percussion he adds with his feet, while stirring up a pot of gumbo on stage during his set, which he shares with the audience at the end of the night. One thing you can say about his shows: they not only sound good, they also smell good. And of course he has his own special hot sauce you can buy so you can take both the music (he has CDs too, of course) and the taste home with you.
Cover is a $10 donation. The gumbo is free.
