Sat 12/13 @ 11AM-3PM
The Collinwood Painted Rain Barrel Project has been spreading its wings this year well beyond its own neighborhood. Founded in 2011 by area artist/environmental advocate Linda Zolten Wood, her project reaches out to other area artists to decorate plain rain barrels so they become interesting objects people are proud to have outside their homes instead of eyesores.
She’s had a dozen of the barrels on display at places like the Great Lakes Science Center and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Now they’ve moved to the Rockefeller Greenhouse off MLK Drive just south of the Route 2 where they’re on display daily from 10pm-4pm through 1/6/15.
Today from 11am-3pm, the Collinwood Painted Rain Barrel Project will offer special programming around the barrels. Wood will be doing a demonstration, painting a mini-barrel, and kids will have the opportunity to create a barrel design on a coloring sheet. In addition there will be music by acoustic guitarist Doug Wood (Linda’s husband) and cellist Tara Hanish, who are 2/3rds of the ensemble Cellocentric. Santa will show up too; we don’t know if he’ll be jumping out of a rain barrel.
Admission is free.
