The music showcased at Lorain County’s Riverdog Barn usually has a downhome flavor, favoring Americana, folk, traditional county and bluegrass bands.
The Often Heard, who are from England’s Newcastle on Tyne, of all places are firmly in that vein, basing their sound in American bluegrass with its intricate, fast-paced instrumentals and vocal harmonies, and putting its own spin on the sound. Guitarist Rupert Hughes, mandolin player Evan Davies, fiddler Niles Krieger and bassist Sam Quintana perform songs written by Hughes and Davies with a typically bluegrass finesse.
Now in its 12th year, the group has earned acclaim for its many tours and festival appearances in Great Britain and Europe, although it’s just beginning to break ground in the U.S. with its current tour after its appearance at the IBMA World of Bluegrass last fall.
