Lorain-based singer/songwriter/pianist/music educator Rachel Brown and her band the Beatnik Playboys are well known for playing some of the best American roots in this area, blending influences such as jazz, honky-tonk country, pop, folk and even gospel into a delectable sonic stew. The centerpiece is Brown’s powerful, but poignant voice, alternately sassy or sad, and she’s supported by three skilled veteran musicians: bassist Bill Watson, drummer Roy King and guitarist Dave Huddleston. They’ve recorded four albums in their more than a decade-and-a-half together, the latest being 2024’s Full Moon Rendezvous.
The band returns to the BOP STOP this weekend for a special show where they’ll play some of their original tunes along with some favorite covers, and tell stories about their music They’ll also have a trio of special guests: Jack Kidney from the Numbers Band on harmonica, drummer Scott Flowers from Blue Lunch, and violinist Greg Smith from Burning River Swing & Forest City Django Club.
Go here for tickets. The show will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Youtube Channel.
