Northeast Ohio native David Lester has made a big name for himself the film industry in the past 50 years. He’s been a producer, production manager and unit manager on a long list of significant films, including The Shawshank Redemption, a majority of which was filmed at the closed Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield. He also worked of Bull Durham, Broadcast News, Tin Cup, White Men Can’t Jump, Star Wars and Star Trek: The Motion Picture, among many others.
Lester will be the guest of the Great Cleveland Film Commission at its annual Behind the Camera gala fundraiser, taking place at the Cleveland History Center at the Western Reserve Historical Society. He’ll share stories about his career and the diverse roster of films he’s been part of. Fox 8’s Stefani Schaefer will moderate the conversation.
Doors will open at 5, and attendees will be able to see WRHS’s current exhibit Hollywood on the Cuyahoga: Northeast Ohio and the Movies, and enjoy drinks and appetizers (each ticket includes one drink ticket) prior to the start of the program at 6pm. Money raised goes to support training for those in the area who want to learn skills to work in the local movie industry.
