NEO will be aglow this holiday week with Lock 3’s WinterBlast in downtown Akron, and close-up magic at the Wizbang Theatre and Spirit Room Cocktail Bar in Cle Hts. Wild Winter Lights at the Zoo has been extended, and the toboggan slides at Mill Creek Run are glistening. A brilliant idea: eat latkes with Blue Lunch at the Beachland on Christmas Day, or blaze up with Carlos Jones the next day at his post-Christmas Holiday Revival. NYE is radiant as the Lake Erie Emo Club throws a Masquerade Party at the Winchester, or find a safe space at the Grog on NYE for Biitchfest with bands Pretty Pretty Awful, Barricade Baby, Laser Babe and Biitchseat.
Off-Leash, formerly Detention, are now barely in their 20s and the re-formed and re-named unit are lighting up Musica this week: watch for leader Elliott Carter as she joins us on our NEO Rewind Series in March for Our Day Will Come: NEO Women Rock, honoring female rockers from Northeast Ohio. The first installment of the series focuses on David Bowie’s NEO connection, and commences in January at BOP STOP on 1/9 (w/Billy Bass), Jilly’s in Akron on 1/10 (w/Anastasia Pantsios), and the Beachland on 1/11 (w/Denny Sanders). Wouldn’t a pair of tickets make a great last minute gift?
Let your light shine, and insist on a world of love. CoolCleveland Arts Commentator Bruce Checefsky laments the hate sweeping down across our land, but points out that we the people decide whether to accept this, or take inspiration from the “Prince of Soul” when he sings, we’ve got to find a way/to bring some lovin’ here today. During this troubled holiday season, we want to see your light shining bright, and we wish you much love & peace from your friends at CoolCleveland & beyond.
