Once again, the Grog Shop is hosting its Great Grog Bakeoff Challenge, inspired by the British TV series The Great British Bakeoff in which amateur bakers present their work for judging.

That’s pretty much what happens at the Grog Shop — live! And this month’s theme is chocolate so I for one will need to stay far far away, lest I try to eat everything. Contestants are invited to use any type of chocolate in any form: cupcakes, brownies, fudge, whatever, bringing multiple pieces for audience members to taste and judge.

There will also be “professional” judges: Elan and Renee Hoenig, proprietors of HoneyBirch Bakehouse on Larchmere Boulevard. The evening will be hosted by stand-up comedian Mary Santora, a Clevelander now based in NYC, and “Snack Daddy” Stefan Johnson, a local voice actor, food reviewer and social media “influencer.”
