Sun 12/21 @ noon-8PM
You might be going a little crazy as the holiday gets closer, and you might just need a break. A great place to have some fun is Winterloo on Waterloo in the Waterloo Arts District—an afternoon and evening loaded with music, but also with opportunities to do some holiday shopping if you still have some unfilled slots on your gift list.
You can start shopping early at the Beachland Flea, which takes place from 10am-3pm at the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern. There you’ll find vendors with a rock & roll sensibility, offering everything from vinyl albums and music memorabilia such as posters, books, buttons and more, to jewelry, clothing and vintage collectibles with a retro vibe. Then walk down to Waterloo Arts for its holiday co-op where you can browse an array of items handmade by local artists. In the way stop in at the PopLife wellness center where they’ll be hosting a market from 9am-4pm.
And there’ll be music everywhere from noon to 6pm, most of it holiday themed, by artists such as eclectic soulsters Black Voltron, classical ensemble OPUS 216, vocalist Nancy Redd & the Sounds of Jazz, spokenword-driven Tongue in Groove, a songwriters circle, and a sing-along session. All of that is free.
Also be sure to stop in Blue Arrow Records from noon-4pm to pet one of their seven feline residents and shop their garage sale to benefit the Waterloo Alley Cat Project. They’ll have two XCSB DJs spinning music too, with Beth from 12-2 and John from 2-4.
If you’re not tired out and want MORE holiday fun, grab a ticket to the Ohio City Singers performance at the Treelawn at 6pm. The seasonal band, made up of some of the area’s most distinguished musicians, has been performing its large repertoire of original holiday songs for 20 years. Get tickets gere. www.thetreelawn.com.
One more thing you might want to note: from noon-8pm you can take photos with Krampus at the Space: ROCK Gallery.
