Dia de Muertos — the traditional Mexican Day of the Dead celebration honoring the ancestors — sponsored by Cleveland Public Theatre again turned the Gordon Square neighborhood into a colorful array of pageantry with ofrendas (altars honoring the dead), craft vendors, food and costumed celebrants who paraded the four blocks from Cleveland Public Theatre’s parking lot to the Craciun Berry Funeral home. Led by Cleveland’s Burlesque Queen, resplendent in purple as La Catrina, the symbol of the day, the procession included dancers, a mariachi band, stilt walkers, and more. And many of the people lining the street to watch wore costumes, masks and face paint themselves to reflect the day.
