Sun 11/2 @ 1:30PM
The big Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, sponsored by Cleveland Public Theatre, takes place at Gordon Square on Saturday November 1. But if you can’t make that one, there’s another Day of the Dead celebration on Sunday November 2 in Willoughby. There, the city of Willoughby, the Willoughby Arts Collaborative and Stella’s Art Gallery will be hosting an event in downtown Willoughby.
There’ll be a community ofrenda (memorial altar composed of elements important to a person’s life) in the park across from City Hall — people are invited to bring photos of loved ones who have died) and student ofrendas coordinated by Elia De La Garza, and several graves in the cemetery will also be decorated. And this year, the event will also include live Latin jazz by the Bill Ransom Trio, dance performances by La Danza Guadalupana and students, and family-friendly art-making at Stella’s to decorate a skull mask or color a sugar skull. The Barra de Tacos food truck will be onsite, and many of the downtown businesses will be open for business.
It’s free and open to all. Go here for more information.
