Maybe all that trick-or-treat/costume/candy/pumpkin-flavored (ugh) everything just isn’t your thing. So how about going out to hear some of the most dynamic and interesting music being made in Northeast Ohio right now? That’s what you’ll get at the Halloween Throwdown at the Beachland Ballroom
But what they’ll be throwing down is diverse, high-energy music. It starts with Cleveland rapper/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jinari Kemet. His music, which he’s showcased on three albums and many live performances in the area including last year’s Fresh Fest at Rid-All Farm, combines influences from hip hop, pop and R&B — “he calls it hip hop fusion.”
He’ll be followed by Black Voltron, led by composer/multi-instrumentalist Robin “Hyperius” Blake, a maestro in a flowing robe with a music degree from Cleveland State and a musical range that includes soul, jazz, disco, neo-soul and world music. He was a winner of the Cleveland Arts Prize’s 2025 Verge Prize, but he doesn’t do it alone: he’s skilled at putting together musicians with the ability to execute his expansive ideas.
The show is headlined by Da Land Brass Band, and then the party really gets started. This New Orleans-influenced brass-and-percussion ensemble is led by William Washington III, who pushes the ten-piece ensemble (there are going to be a lot of musicians on the stage this evening!) to greater levels of exuberance and audience engagement.
Don’t worry about the costume — just wear comfortable shoes for all the dancing you’ll be doing. Get your tickets here.
