Waterloo Alley Cat Benefit Helps Homeless Cats in North Collinwood

Sat 8/16 @ 3-6PM

The Waterloo Alley Cat Project, founded by Debbie and Pete Gulyas who co-own Blue Arrow Records in the Waterloo Arts District, has been helping cats in the neighborhood for more than 15 years. When they opened their store, they found the neighborhood was overrun with feral, sick, hungry and reproducing cats, and vowed to do something about it. Since then they’ve spayed and neutered hundreds of cats, reducing the population, and providing food and vet care for several colonies of cats, as well as a couple of sheltering locations, aided by a team of cat-worshipping volunteers.

Of course all this costs money, about $2,000 a month to feed the four dozen cats or so they care for throughout the neighborhood, plus vet bills. So they hold benefits throughout that year that are also bonding parties for cat lovers to hang out with others as smitten with felines as they themselves are.

This weekend they’re hosting another such event at Cavotta’s Garden Center, one of Collinwood’s loveliest hidden event spaces, with its large covered pavilion, gorgeous landscaping, food menu and full bar, along with goats, chickens and resident cats. It also features live music on the pavilion stage.

There’ll be raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle to benefit to kitties. There’s a $5 cover for the band. Learn more about the event and how to help the kitties here.
