Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood is home to one of the biggest free music festivals in the area with its annual Highland Square Porch Rokr.
The 13th annual Porch Rokr this weekend features nearly 150 bands and musicians on multiple stages, starting at11am. The schedule is heavy on Akron area bands, both well-known and obscure, as well as a handful from farther afield. And you can find almost any genre from classic to hardcore punk — maybe even classical hardcore! Some of the more familiar names include Truss, Red Rose Panic, By Light We Loom, the Kristofer Carter Show, Time Cat, Jinari Kemet, Black Voltron, Anya Van Rose, Church of Starry Wisdom, Xtra Crispy, Girl Cologne, the Crones, and Matthew Alec & the Soul Electric. But you’d be well advised to just wander around and make some discoveries as well. The Akronauts are the headlining band, closing things down at 7:30 in the Main Stage.
Lots of food and drink and more than 85 local creative vendors are part of the event as well. They suggest you wear comfortable shoes. Admission is free. It’s child- and pet-friendly too!
