The Lake County Fair, taking place this week at the Fairgrounds in Painesville, gets started with a big bang, frontloading the week with the signature county fair event; the Demolition Derby. On fact, it bookends the fair with another Demolition Derby on Sunday July 27.
But what if you don’t come just to see old cars smashed up? There’s plenty else to see and do! There are a bunch more vehicle-related thrill events in the Grandstand, with Dirt Bike Motor Mayhem on Wednesday, Moto-X racing on Thursday, KOI Drag Racing on Friday, and Truck and Tractor Pulls on Saturday.
And it’s not all about extreme vehicle sports either. The fair opens on Tuesday with a more-than-200-unit parade that starts in the city of Painesville and makes its way down Mentor Avenue to the fairgrounds. After that you can settle in to wander the fairgrounds and eat lots of food that’s bad for you (Hey, it’s only once a year!) while taking in attractions such as Jungle Terry’s Animal Show, Sky Circus Cleveland’s variety shows and strolling performances, the All-American Pig Races happening several times each day, and of course, the rides. There’s plenty of stage entertainment too, mostly featuring cover bands. And Sunday is Latino Day, celebrating the area’s expanding Mexican population.
