Author Jonathan Gould, a contributing writer to The New Yorker, has written several books about music including Can’t Buy Me Love: The Beatles, Britain, and America, and Otis Redding: An Unfinished Life. Most recently, he’s penned Burning Down the House, his newly released book, which tells the story of Talking Heads, one of the most influential bands to come out of the 1970s lower Manhattan scene around CBGB’s, the grubby little club that also launched artists such as the Ramones, Patti Smith, the Dead Boys and Blondie. What was especially intriguing about this so-called “punk” scene was how different and original each of the bands was — and that certainly included Talking Heads, with their distinctive, detached, almost mechanical sound.

Gould will be at the Rock Hall this week to share some of the stories in her book during a discussion with Rock Hall VP of Education and Visitor Engagement Jason Hanley and to sign copies of his book following the interview.
