Cleveland-Based Balalaika Player Takes Listeners Around the World in Kent

Sat 9/21 @ 8PM

Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ Around the World music series kicks off its season with a Siberia-raised, Cleveland-based balalaika musician Oleg Kruglyakov, who is known to local audiences as half of the Russian Duo in which he performs with pianist Terry Boyarsky.

Kruglyakov began his studies on the traditional Russian instrument back home in Siberia at age 7, studying with one of the Soviet Union’s premiere balalaika players. He toured in the ’80s and ’90 with Russian folk groups before moving to the U.S. His background encompasses both folk and classical music.

The 8pm concert is preceded by a 7:30 meet-and-greet with light food and drinks. It’s a suggested $10 donation.
