On Wed 9/11 the 16th annual Slovenian Sausage Fest, hosted by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame took place at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland, and it was clear who the winner of the judging was. Azman Quality Meats of Euclid, Ohio, was picked as the Best of Fest by the jury and won the People’s Choice Award as well. Raddell’s Sausage Shop in North Collinwood was runner-up in both categories.
More than 1,300 people turned out to savor eight hours of sausages and polka music at this benefit for the Polka Hall of Fame, with around 2,000 sausages consumed.
Azman Quality Meats is a true ethnic shop, descended from a butcher shop started 95 years ago by current proprietor Bill Azman’s grandfather with recipes he brought to the country from Slovenia. As the victor, Azman’s gets to be the sausage vendor at the Polka Hall of Fame’s annual Thanksgiving Polka weekend at the downtown Marriott.
