Think & Drink With the Extinct is the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s monthly social/educational event for the grownups. They offer a cash beer/wine bar and food for purchase as well as free snacks.
But they also provide a special educational experience, with insight into a different topic each month provided by scientists and researchers from the museum’s staff. And the kids are going to be so jealous — this month’s topic is paleontology — dinosaurs! “What do you mean we have to stay home with the sitter?!?!”
You can learn all about making casts of fossils, see specimens in the collection and even watch a fossil preparator at work. Learn about the fossils unearthed when I-71 was built, and take a tour of the current exhibit The World’s Largest Dinosaurs with paleomammalogist Dr. Darin Croft at 6:30 or 8 to learn fascinating facts about these critters: write them down so you can share them with the kids). You can also be a kid for the evening — there will be games to play and a craft project where you can make your own “fossil.”
Also, the observatory will be open for viewing starting at 8:30, and at 7pm, astronomers will do a show about astronomical events that impacted the fossils left behind for us to find. That’s an additional $5. Admission to the evening is $7; museum members and CWRU students are free.
