Husband-and-wife duo Kagey Parrish and Laura Wortman comprise the Honey Dewdrops, whose music is both appealingly earthy and deeply insightful and thoughtful. While grounded in the folk styles of Appalachia, reflecting their roots in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, they cast an unflinching eye at the realities of the environment, for instance, taking on the destructive impact of mountaintop removal coal mining in their tune “Hills of my Home,” from their 2012 album Silver Lining. Their latest album, Live From Folk Alley at Fayetteville Roots Festival, offers an eight-track sampling of their sparse, straightforward performance style, including a bare-bones version of the Beatles’ “Across the Universe.” They’ll be performing in the appropriately rustic G.A.R. Hall in Peninsula as part of the Voices in the Valley Series. Tickets are $10 in advance, $14 at the door. thehoneydewdrops.com/
