Plaza @PlayhouseSquare Will Host Lots of Free Summer Music

Thu 5/22 @ 5PM

The U.S. Bank Plaza at PlayhouseSquare will be hopping most of the summer, with multiple music series in the works.

First out of the box is the Labatt Blue Light Lime Concert Series, an after-work event styled after the old Parties in the Park. They’ll take place every other Thursday except July 3, starting 5/22 and running through 9/25. And while there are some rock & roll cover bands in the mix, the series is taking a chance that people will party to some terrific local bands who do their own thing too.

Kicking off is the zydeco-styled Mo’Mojo, who mix their own tunes with Louisiana classics. They call themselves a “party-gras” band, and the seven-piece ensemble with multiple lead vocalists does indeed bring the party, as well as impressive musicianship and an original twist, whenever they play.

The rest of the schedule includes Into the Blue’s Grateful Dead revue on June 5; reggae from Umojah Nation on July 17; the Burning River Ramblers’ easygoing original pop/rock original rock on July 31; Barbara Bennett & Co on August 14; roots reggae ensemble Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band on August 28; and classic rock cover band Almost Famous on September 11.  The series will wrap on September 25 with an act to be announced.

Food and drink will be available, of course. Hanging out is free.

Stay tuned for a classical guitar series and a series of noon performances by Baldwin Wallace music students later this summer.
