It’s hard to believe that Cleveland’s Mushroomhead is turning 20. Started in 1993 as a side project by musicians who were in various area metal bands, the group started wearing masks in order not to distract from those “real” bands.
Those bands are long gone, and Mushroomhead continues to be a touring and recording juggernaut, updating their masks and eerie stage shows as time goes on. It’s got a new album being mixed and ready to drop soon.
Their costumed and masked stage act, along with their dark, intense music which blends metal, goth, industrial, and electronic sounds, makes them a natural for the annual Halloween shows they do.
This year’s show is again at the Agora Theater with One eyed Doll, XFactor1, and X Members opening. It takes place in the middle of their fall 20th anniversary tour of the east coast and midwest.
This show should be a special treat for longtime fans. It marks the return of Jason Popson, one of the band’s original two singers alongside Jeff Hatrix, who’ll be joining Hatrix and his replacement Waylon Reavis, onstage.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of show. A $75 VIP ticket includes early entry to the show, a meet-and-greet with the band, sound check and a limited edition T-shirt.
