Few names in jazz are better known to the non-jazz fan than that of trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, the best known member of New Orleans’ First Family of Jazz.
While there have been arguments about whether Marsalis is too dedicated to preserving jazz traditions in amber, there’s little disagreement about the impact he’s had through his playing, teaching, mentoring (including his encouragement of young Cleveland trumpeter on the way up, Dominick Farinacci, who Marsalis spotted as a teenager at the Tri-C JazzFest), and especially as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
That ensemble has featured some of the genre’s most talented soloists performing some of the greatest works of the jazz canon, as well as original work by Marsalis and others it’s commissioned to compose pieces.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will perform at the Akron Civic Theatre.
Tickets are $45-$75.
