It’s opening weekend at the Cleveland Orchestra, and music director Franz Welser- Möst will be on the podium to kick off the season with a program of melodic, accessible and much-loved music.
At the top of the program is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, aka Pastoral, which draws heavily on nature for inspiration, as well as folk-dance themes. It will be complemented by three short pieces by Ravel that reference dance: Alborada del gracioso, Valse nobles et sentimentales and La Valse.
The concerts will be preceded by a conversation between Welser-Möst and orchestra executive director Gary Hanson on the upcoming season. That takes place an hour prior to the performance.
Tickets are $49-$120.
