Cleveland’s college radio doesn’t get enough credit for its role in boosting the local music scene, so anytime you local music lovers have a chance to support it, you should.

And since they’re ad-free, volunteer-run and nonprofit, the stations need your financial support. That’s why Cleveland State’s radio station WCSB 89.3FM is holding a benefit concert at the Beachland Tavern. Come see a new local pop-rock band with some veteran players: the Rumbling Spires, featuring Dave Swanson, guitarist Don DePew, bassist Brian McCafferty and Tommy Rich. Collectively they have played in such local bands as American Noise, Breaker, Death of Samantha, Cobra Verde, the Beatnik Termites, Rainy Day Saints, Kevin Junior/Chamber Strings, Guided by Voices, the Unknown, New Salem Witchhunters, Donnie Iris & the Cruisers and many many more.

You can also check out youthful Pittsburgh garage rockers the Nox Boys, barely out of their teens and signed to Pittsburgh’s respected indie label Get Hip Records, and Cleveland’s noisy indie band Exploding Lies. WCSB DJs will be on hand to spin tracks before, after and between sets.

It’s a $10 donation.
