Slovenian Sausage Makers Compete at Sausage Fest to the Sound of Polka Music

Sat 9/13 @ noon-8PM

The annual Slovenian Sausage Fest at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland, presented by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame, honors several Cleveland-Slovenian cultural manifestations at once.

Of course there’s polka—you cannot have a Slovenian event in Cleveland without it (“Cleveland-style polka IS Slovenian polka!). So there’ll be music all day long from such beloved area ensembles as the Don Wojtila Band, the Anthony Culkar Orchestra, Frank Moravcik with Linda Hochevar, the Al Battistelli Band, Ron Likovic and Friends, the Fairport Jammers, and more. The parade of accordions on and off the stage will be epic! In fact, all accordionists of any skill level are welcome to bring their instrument and jam throughout the day. You can bet the dance floor is never going to be empty.

But the added attraction is the food. As usual there will be plenty of Slovenian specialties, sweets and drinks available for purchase. But there will also be klobasa! Local sausage makers will be competing for the

People’s Choice and Best of Fest awards. The champ will be announced at 6pm and wins a big prize: to be the featured sausage maker at the annual with the champion crowned the Cleveland Thanksgiving Polka Weekend. Sausages will be available to sample and purchase!

There’ll also be vendors with T-shits, recordings and polka/Slovenian-themed gift items. You can sample and purchase a variety of sausages, local food specialties, sweet treats, and refreshments. Advance tickets are available for #12at the Polka Hall of Fame or you can buy them at the door for $15. Those under 18 are free to help pass the traditions on to the next generation.
