Japanese Composer Conducts the Cleveland Orchestra in his Own Compositions

Thu 9/4 & Fri 9/5 @ 7PM

Japanese composer/conductor/pianist Joe Hisaishi has released more than 40 solo albums since his first in 1981. His list of collaborations is lengthy. He’s created music for nearly 100 films (he’s also directed films) while conducting numerous orchestras in performing the classics and as well as pieces from his own enormous catalog.

This week at Severance Music Center, he’ll make his Cleveland Orchestra conducting debut, leading the Orchestra in playing some of his own compositions, including Symphony No. 3 (“Metaphysica”), Viola Saga for Orchestra, and the U.S. premiere of The Boy and the Heron Suite for Piano and Orchestra. Antoine Tamestit is the viola soloist.
