The LatinUs Theater Company, whose home is in the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression on the near west side, is opening its doors to a visiting company: Mexico City’s Los Pinche Chamacos, presented by the Mexican Committee of Mexico in Cleveland.
The production they’ll be offering is titled El Despertar del zombie or The Awakening of the Zombie. They describe it as “a thematic monologue aimed mostly at young audiences with intelligent themes that encourage critical thinking.”
“Between the limits of imagination and madness unfolds the fantastic story of a young student tortured by a Machiavellian entity that has developed in his mind,” they amplify. “Thanks to the interface, that boy who lives in the virtual world, has limited his goals to killing ‘hitmen zombies’ in a video game mission. As his murderous instincts develop and his sleep loss increases, hallucinations will lead him to the realm of death.”
Sounds like a classic modern story of Internet addiction that would be familiar to both Spanish and English speakers. Parents can take their kids and go “See — this is why we limit your screen time!” There will be three performances at LatinUs’s Black Box Theatre. Get tickets here.
