Percussionist Paul Stranahan and guitarist Tim Mirth are two of northeast Ohio’s most adventurous musicians. Each has played in numerous projects in a variety of genres. Together as Night Terrors, they offer open-ended compositions with lots of space for the improvisational explorations that fuel their music. Jazz, metal and avant-garde music all figure into their performances. Mirth uses extensive guitar effects, while Stranahan is known for expanding his drum kit with gongs and Tibetan singing bowls.
They’ve described their sound as “a template of soundscapes and movements to take one through some kind of hazy, often scary, dream.” You’ll never hear the same thing twice; each show is unique.
Most of their shows have taken place at the BOP STOP but this weekend they’ll be playing a new venue, one that’s new to them and new to the area as well: the Treelawn Social Club (formerly the Slovenian Workmen’s Home) in the Waterloo Arts District. It’s also their first east side gig in a while. Get tickets here.
