You’d think a mayor of New York City had bigger things to worry about than furry, adorable, weasel-like pets some people like to adopt. But back in the late 90s, Rudy Giuliani became bizarrely obsessed with the slinky little critters, claiming “In New York City’s multiple dwelling residences, a ferret could crawl through holes in walls or travel through risers or ducts to other apartments, with potentially tragic consequences for the neighbor of a ferret owner.” It’s unclear what the “tragic consequences” might be other than they might melt at its playful cuteness and go out and get a ferret of their own, which isn’t very tragic.
Luckily, there’s no such controversy in Ohio, and the consequences are more often tragic for the ferrets that are abandoned. Luckily, Avon Lake-based Ferrets Unlimited is a no-kill rescue that rehomes abandoned and surrendered ferrets.
They support their volunteer-run nonprofit group with fundraisers throughout the year, and they have one coming up called Ferret Bowl, taking place at North Woods Lane (10435 Valley View) in Macedonia. For $20 you get unlimited bowling and shows, as well as both vegan and carnivore snacks, and a free soft drink. Additional beverages are available for purchase. There will also be raffle prizes and a 50/50 Lucky Ferret raffle.
You can get tickets on their website or at the door, but if the latter, you should reserve them. Go here to buy them or RSVP.
