Family Fishing Day Is Back at Rockefeller Park Lagoon

Family Fishing Day Is Back at Rockefeller Park Lagoon

Sat 6/6 @ 10AM-2PM

With Lake Erie in our backyard, fishing is a big deal in Cleveland. From Edgewater Park to the East 55th Street Marina to Euclid Beach, you’ll find people of all ages — families, couples, grandpa with grandkids — lined up along the piers and rocks with a full array of fishing gear all year around if the lake isn’t frozen.

To past the tradition down, each year the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership hosts Family Fishing Day at Rockefeller Park Lagoon to get the next generation excited about this popular activity. Cleveland Metroparks instructors will be on hand to show beginners the ropes and offer some hints to the more experienced anglers. Last year the event attracted 500 people. The lagoon will be well-stocked with bluegill land cat fish.

There’ll also be free fishing rods for kids, seniors and veterans who register in advance, while supplies last. (The VA is across the street so it’s an easy jaunt for veterans.) There’ll be free bait as well, and no fishing license is required. Walkups are welcome too. Go here to register.
