Cleveland Composers Guild Concert Juxtaposes Members' Work With American Classics

Thu 3/19 @ 7PM

The Cleveland Composers Guild has been around more than 60 years, encouraging composers to create by collaborating with various musical organizations to offer opportunities for performances.

Its upcoming concert, An American Mosaic: Songs of Home, Journeys and Encounters with the Unknown, is co-presented by John Carroll University. It explores through music how migration and place have impacted American cultural traditions. New compositions for voice and piano will mingle with classic pieces by American composers such as George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Ricky Gordon and John Phillip Sousa played by the JCU wind ensemble.

Soprano Laura Fisk, mezzo-soprano Claire Connelly, tenor Matthew Jones, baritone John Gray Watson and pianist Allison Hiller will perform pieces by Cleveland composers Ryan Charles Ramer, Lorenzo Salvagni, Matthew C. Saunders, Stephen Stanziano, Robert Rollin, and Jeffrey Quick.

The concert takes place at JCU’s St. Francis Chapel. It’s free and open to the public. Get more information here.
