The Larchmere Porchfest is now in its 7th year. It’s not a little neighborhood secret anymore but despite the crowds, it still has an informal neighborhood vibe.
Each year, the day-long festival features 30 bands and musicians playing on 30 porches of residents who live on the side streets radiating off Larchmere Boulevard, while listeners flop on the lawn (you can bring a chair or blanket) or stand on the sidewalk. Many of the businesses, bars and restaurants on Larchmere also book music during the day to join in the spirit of the event.
The lineup this year is, as always, diverse and features some of the buzzier bands in town as well as names we’ve never heard. With multiple bands playing at any given time, you’ll want to grab a schedule and a map from one of the information tables and make some priorities.
Everyone’s will be different, of course. But we like Akron Americana/rock trio Shivering Timbers, singers Erik Urycki and Abby Rose from the Speedbumps performing as a duo, husband-and-wife folk/pop duo By Light We Loom (ex-Bethesda), singer/songwriter/guitarist Diana Chittester who’s back in town after a move to Portland, Oregon, biting indie rocker Morgan Mecaskey, funky brass/percussion ensemble the Revolution Brass Band and … heck, so many more.
There’s reggae, blues, hip hop, bluegrass, jazz, folk and even Classical Revolution Cleveland, a group of top local classical musicians who take their music to non-traditional venues.
At 6pm, all the action converges on a single stage, with headlining sets by symphonic popsters Cities & Coasts (6-7pm) and mostly instrumental soul band the Admirables (7-8pm). In the 8-10pm slot, you have three choices: blues/folk performer Tom Evanchuck (8-10pm), folk rockers Oldboy, and Brazilian jazz guitarist Moises Borges.
It’s all free so be sure to buy some lemonade from the local kids selling it in front of their house.
