Japanese Pianist Creates “Sound Installation” in CMA’s Atrium

Tue 7/29 @ noon-1PM

Piano Cleveland’s Piano Days is a two-week series of events taking place at different locations around northeast Ohio, some ticketed, some free.

One of the latter takes place in the Ames Family Atrium at the Cleveland Museum of Art. There pianist Kotaro Fukuma, the 2003 Cleveland International Piano Competition first prize winner who has gone onto a major international career, will create an “immersive sound installation” of Japanese piano music by modern composers Karen Tanka, Ryuichi Skakmoto and Toru Takemitsu. His performance is his interpretation in sound of the visual language of contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, whose Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow is currently on view at CMA.

Fukuma’s performance is free and no ticket or reservation is required.
