For all you hardy outdoors types, the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village is celebrating the Winter Solstice — a few days early since it falls on a school night — with a family event it bills as “fun.” Well, if your idea of fun is a brisk winter night hike to see nocturnal animals, it is. But for less hardy sorts, there’s also the opportunity to visit the planetarium to see the night sky from indoors and learn about what the solstice signifies. (No, it has nothing to do with sleeping gods or anything like that — it’s just science). And if you do hike, there’ll be a fire to warm your hands.

It’s $7 per person, children 2 and under are free.
