PHOTOSTREAM: Kozo Harvest at Morgan Conservatory by Anastasia Pantsios

11.07.2020 Morgan Conservatory Kozo Harvest

Sat 11/7

Cleveland’s Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory boasts the largest kozo grove in the U.S. behind its workshop/studio facility. The bark from the kozo, a form of mulberry, has long been used by the Japanese for making paper and the Morgan follows that tradition.

November is the time of the kozo harvest when the branches are cut and steamed, and inner layer is stripped to use as the raw material for the papermaking. The Morgan invites people who are curious to come down and participate, to learn what goes into the process. They began the weekend of November 7-8 and will be continuing to work through Friday November 13; reserve a time slot any day through then from 10am-4pm if you’d like to help out and see what goes on. The community harvests Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15 have been canceled due to rapidly spiking COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County.
