Back in 2004 when he was battling cancer out in Los Angeles, Cleveland musicians organized Tommy Amato Rock Relief for the Cleveland drummer who had played in a multitude of local bands in the 1970s and 1980s. Wanting to pay it forward, Amato has organized a similar event each year since, with a different area musician in need the beneficiary.
The 18th annual Tommy Amato Rock Relief will benefit drummer John Sferra of the legendary Youngstown band of the early 70s, Glass Harp, who is suffering from kidney disease. The show, which features four tribute bands, takes place at Slim and Chubby’s in Strongsville. In addition to the $25 suggested donation at the door, they’re be raising money through raffles featuring an assortment of (mostly) music related items donated by area musicians, music fans and others.
