Brooklyn’s Underground System Brings the (Afro) Beat to the BOP STOP

Wed 10/5 @ 7PM

The initial impetus for the music of Brooklyn’s Underground System came from Fela Kuti, the Afrobeat legend and pioneer. In the six years since the ensemble launched, they’ve expanded their musical influences to create an international pastiche with a body-moving groove, and they’re expanded their audiences through jazz festival, arts series appearances and club dates, and a couple of quirky, distinctive 12” single releases.

With its half-female, half-male lineup representing many cultures and its female frontperson Domenica Fossati, the ensemble brings a different sensibility to typically macho Afrobeat-based music. They’ll be rocking the Bop Stop this week. Tickets are $12.
