There are several exciting new things to check out at this month’s Third Friday at 78th Street Studios.
At HEDGE Gallery, new paintings and prints by David King and Dante Rodriguez go on view in Nebula. The gallery tells us that these works “ focused on finding truth in obscurity, whether through historical references or self reflection.”
King works in oil and pastels, using family history — including pieces of film and photos — as his raw material.
“Rodriguez explores symbols of identity through his most recent series of drawings, creating rich, layered line work and patterns that reference facial features, cultural fashion trends, and imagery of masks,” says the gallery’s statement.
The show runs through 12/29.
The Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery debuts new work by an artist who is familiar to its patrons, Judith Brandon, whose turbulent, often ominous, nature-based work have been featured in previous shows. Brandon’s Resonant Drawings includes work from her book of the same name, plus several additional pieces. The book will be available at the gallery.
As usual, it’s a good idea to come early so you can take your time and explore all four floors of galleries, studios and businesses.
