The Capitol Theatre in Gordon Square is providing something for film lovers to do on those slow Tuesdays with its fall doc series.

For eight weeks, it’s doing special screenings of documentaries on a range of topics, ranging from specialized personal stories such as the story of a Norwegian chess master and a hugely successful Japanese band you’ve never heard of, to those with societal and environmental impact such as an exploration of the impact of combat atrocities and another of the 1966 mass shooting at the University of Texas.

It opens with a film that leans toward the former. Film buffs will lap up Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four, a movie that got made by this legendary independent filmmaker but never released. Hear interviews of members of the cast and crew, and learn about the backroom industry chicanery that kept the film on the shelf.

Tickets are $9.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and children, $8.50 for students.
