Quire Cleveland, with its new artistic director Jay White, begins its season with a free concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, the seat of the Cleveland Catholic diocese.
In Lux Perpetuam: Journey into Eternal Light offers music from the medieval era through the 20th century that contemplates the lives and souls of others. Included are movements from medieval and Renaissance Requiem masses, along with elegies to their composers; examples of early polyphony from 14th-16th century composers Guillaume de Machaut, Johannes Ockeghem, and Josquin des Prez; works by English renaissance composers Thomas Tallis and Williams Byrd; and pieces by 20th-century British composers C.H.H. Parry and William Harris.
They range from small-group works to full chorus pieces. The concert is free and open to all, and there is free parking in the Cathedral garage.
