Five years ago, one of northeast Ohio’s many rising young jazz musicians, drummer/percussionist Anthony Taddeo, came up with a unique idea: using Alan Lomax’s 1954 Smithsonian Folkways field recordings of nearly extinct regional Italian folk tunes as a baseline and giving the music a contemporary twist, drawing on jazz, rock and world music. He enlisted other musicians from that talented cohort to form Alla Boara, who now have two albums out, a third on the way, and plans to tour their music more extensively.
The band will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a musical party at the BOP STOP, with new music, special guests and a free glass of prosecco for each concertgoer who is at least 21.
The core band includes Taddeo, guitarist Daniel Bruce, trumpet player Tommy Lehman, bassist Ian Kinnaman, accordionist/pianist Mark Micchelli and vocalist Amanda Powell. They’ll be joined for the evening by a bevy of special guests: violinist Yaryna Tsarynska, sax player Chris Coles, trumpet player Garrett Folger, guitarist John Karkosiak, percussionist Patrick Graney, and vocalist Rachel Osherow.
The concert will also be livestreamed on BOP STOP’s Youtube Channel. Get tickets here.
